Velasquez Woodwork was founded by Gilbert Velasquez, a craftsman with a deep love for building things that last. Gilbert came to Austin in 1987 from the Rio Grande Valley with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a heart to serve people well.

He began by doing general maintenance work around Austin, which slowly grew into remodeling kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and more. Like many builders, Gilbert originally purchased cabinets from big-box stores—but eventually felt called to try something new. He decided to build his own.

That first step wasn’t easy. There were plenty of mistakes, long nights, and lessons learned the hard way. But Gilbert kept going—asking questions, studying woodworking magazines, and investing in better tools. Working out of a one-car garage and a makeshift tent in his driveway, each project got a little better, and his passion for custom cabinetry grew stronger.

When Gilbert knew this was what he was meant to do, he invested in a 16x20 metal building, where Velasquez Woodwork operated for 24 years. As the business grew, so did the vision. The addition of a CNC machine marked a new chapter, along with hiring Edward—who now runs the machine and has been a true God-send to the shop.

In mid-2025, the Lord blessed the Velasquez Woodwork family with nearly three acres in Buda, Texas, allowing them to build a 30x60 metal shop. This new space opened the door to bigger projects, more custom cabinetry, detailed CNC-cut work, signs, and creative builds of all kinds.

Today, Velasquez Woodwork is more than a shop it’s the result of decades of faith, perseverance, and pride in doing things the right way. Gilbert and his team are committed to quality craftsmanship, honest work, and creating pieces that feel just as good as they look.
